Animal Care Guidelines for Dogs
The most important responsibility of dog owners/guardians is to provide proper care for their dog. Anyone unable, or unwilling, to provide such care should not get a dog in the first place. Many of society's problems with dogs stem from animals that are not properly cared-for.
Among the essential physical requirements of every dog are clean, dry and warm shelter, appropriate and healthful food, fresh water, basic training, proper identification, and medical care. Dogs' mental requirements must also be provided for. These include play and positive interaction with other dogs and humans.
The BC SPCA has developed an extensive set of guidelines to caring for dogs.
